Monkeying Around: My Hilarious Adventures in Reading Journey to the West
Introduction
I have always been fascinated by Chinese literature, and one of my favorite books is "Journey to the West". It's a classic tale about Monkey King Sun Wukong and his companions on their journey to India. I recently decided to read it again, this time with a more critical eye. As I turned the pages, I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of some parts. In this article, I will share my hilarious adventures in reading "Journey to the West".
The Monkey King's Antics
Sun Wukong is known for his mischievous behavior and antics throughout the novel. One of my favorite scenes is when he steals peaches from heaven and eats them all night long. He then becomes so full that he can't move anymore! This scene always makes me chuckle because it's so ridiculous.
Another funny part is when Sun Wukong fights with various monsters along their journey. His fighting style is very unique - he uses his powerful staff called Ruyi Jingu Bang which has magical powers such as being able to change its length or even fly! These battles are often filled with humor as Sun Wukong outwits his enemies using his cunningness rather than brute force.
Pigsy and Sandy's Comedic Relief
Two other characters who provide comedic relief are Pigsy (Zhu Bajie) and Sandy (Sha Wujing). Pigsy is a half-human half-pig creature who loves food especially meat dishes while Sandy comes from Mount Flower Fruit Mountain where they only eat fruits. They often bicker over what type of cuisine they should eat next which leads to hilarious arguments.
In another scene, Pigsy tries on a pair of shoes meant for humans but ends up tripping over himself because they are too big for him!
These two characters add much-needed levity to an otherwise serious story about monks on a spiritual quest.
Tang Sanzang's Patience
Despite all these comedic moments, there are also many touching moments in "Journey To The West" that showcase Tang Sanzang's patience and compassion towards others including those who try harm him or cause trouble for him along their journey.
For example during one episode Tang Sanzang shows kindness towards someone trying steal food from them despite knowing he would do it again later showing how patient & understanding he was towards people around him
His calm demeanor amidst chaos reminds us that even in difficult times we must remain steadfast & show love not hate
It’s amazing how much depth there can be hidden behind simple actions like offering water or sharing food among friends
This book teaches us important life lessons through storytelling , making it timeless masterpiece loved by generations after generations
Conclusion:
Reading "Journey To The West" has given me new insights into Chinese culture & history while reminding me laughter isn’t just something you watch TV/ movies . You can find laughter anywhere if you open your eyes wide enough . Even ancient texts written centuries ago contain wisdoms waiting be discovered .
So if ever feel stuck feeling down remember there’s always room learn grow discover — even through old stories told anew
